In order to offer the Virginia Fresh Match (VFM) program at your farmers market, mobile market, store, farm stand, CSA, or other local food retail location, you must first be authorized to accept SNAP/EBT payments. â€‹

SNAP Equipment Grant Overview

​The SNAP Equipment Grant is designed for Direct Marketing Farmers (DMFs) and Farmers Markets (FMs).

The SNAP EBT Modernization Technical Assistance Center (SEMTAC) is a partnership of the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) and the National Grocers Association Foundation. Their industry experts offer free one-on-one support and other resources to businesses pursuing FNS modernization initiatives.

EBT Chip Card Technology for Grocers

Much like traditional credit and debit cards, SNAP EBT technology is quickly transitioning from cards with magnetic stripes to cards that also include a chip, which greatly enhances security. Grocers will need to reach out to their POS providers to plan for the transition.
