In order to offer the Virginia Fresh Match (VFM) program at your farmers market, mobile market, store, farm stand, CSA, or other local food retail location, you must first be authorized to accept SNAP/EBT payments. ​

MarketLink is a program of the Farmers Food Assistance Bureau (FFAB) that is modernizing direct marketing farmers (DMFs) and farmers markets’ (FMs) methods of accepting Federal Nutrition Assistance Program benefits and incentive programs through electronic payments, simple data management, and quick and secure payments.

This guide is written for businesses that meet the USDA definition of a Farmers Market: three or more agriculture-producers who sell their own products directly to the public at a fixed location.
The SNAP EBT Modernization Technical Assistance Center (SEMTAC) is a partnership of the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) and the National Grocers Association Foundation. Their industry experts offer free one-on-one support and other resources to businesses pursuing FNS modernization initiatives.
EBT Chip Card Technology for Grocers
Much like traditional credit and debit cards, SNAP EBT technology is quickly transitioning from cards with magnetic stripes to cards that also include a chip, which greatly enhances security. Grocers will need to reach out to their POS providers to plan for the transition.
